Have you ever noticed how wildflowers bloom in the most unexpected places? Cracks in sidewalks. The edge of a highway. Fields no one has tended.
They don’t ask for permission. They don’t wait for the perfect season or the most fertile soil. They bloom because it’s in their nature to do so.
That resilience, that unapologetic act of becoming, is what inspired me to create The Wildflower Rule.
What Is the Wildflower Rule?
The Wildflower Rule is simple: Bloom where you are, as you are, without waiting for perfect conditions or approval.
It is a reminder that even in imperfect soil, growth is possible. Even in less-than-ideal circumstances, beauty can flourish.
For too long, many of us have been taught to wait: for the right time, for the right resources, for validation from others before we take the leap. But waiting often means we never start.
The Red Dress
When I was a teenager my mother told me a story about a woman who was given a beautiful red dress, which she cherished and promised herself she’d one day wear to the perfect event. But every time she considered it, something wasn’t quite right: the timing, the shoes, the occasion, etc.
She kept waiting for the moment when everything would be just right. But as I’m sure you have guessed that day never came. She fell ill unexpectedly and passed away, never having worn the dress.
The lesson is simple: wear the red dress. Don’t lose out on your dreams while you wait for a perfection that may never come.
Like the red dress, wildflowers remind us that waiting robs us of the present. The bloom doesn’t wait for perfect — it begins anyway.
Why This Rule Matters
Like many women, I’ve had seasons where I hesitated to move forward because everything didn’t look “perfect.” I told myself I needed more time, more credentials, more clarity, more money. I was waiting for the perfect time to buy a house, I was searching for the perfect husband, I tried to provide the perfect childhood for my son.
But perfection is a myth that keeps us rooted in fear instead of possibility, stressed inside of enjoying the moment.
The Wildflower Rule challenges us to release the myth and instead embrace:
Progress over perfection — messy beginnings still count as beginnings.
Embrace small beginnings — small beginnings are still beginnings. True progress does not require grand overtures.
Resilience over approval — your growth doesn’t require outside permission.
Authenticity over performance — who you are is already enough.
This rule has become a foundation of the Amara Kollective because it reflects the very heart of our community: women choosing to rise, even in imperfect seasons.
How to Apply the Wildflower Rule in Your Own Life
Here are a few ways you can begin living by the Wildflower Rule:
1. Identify one area of your life where you’ve been waiting for “perfect conditions.” Write it down. Ask yourself: What would it look like if I started now, with what I have?
2. Celebrate small blooms.
Every step forward is a seed. Notice and honor the progress you’re making, even if it feels small.
3. Reframe challenges as soil.
Wildflowers thrive in tough conditions. The very thing you see as a setback might be the ground that strengthens your resilience.
What It Looks Like Inside the Amara Kollective
The Wildflower Rule is more than a concept, it’s a practice we cultivate together. Through reflection tools like the Wildflower Way framework and resources from the Kollective Kache, members learn to move past fear and perfectionism and into action.
In our weekly Cultivation Calls, we remind each other that blooming is a process, one that doesn’t need to be polished to be powerful.
And through our Signature Experiences, we create moments where women can gather, grow, and flourish together no matter what stage of the journey they’re in.
A Reflection Prompt for You
